Garbage odour control systems for chutes, bin rooms and compactors

The Garbage Doctor® is installed in your garbage room and works 24/7 to neutralise garbage odour, while assisting with germicidal control. The machine treats the odour at the source: at the bottom of the garbage chute, in the bin room or at the compactor. For the best results, we recommend using our systems in conjunction with regular garbage chute cleaning, as part of your waste management plan.

What you get with the Garbage Doctor®

The Garbage Doctor works at the source of the smell, all day and all night. What you get:

  • Results typically evident within 5 to 30 minutes of installation
  • A cleaner, more hygienic refuse system, while assisting with germicidal control
  • Ozone for a neutral smell, with optional scenting for a pleasant fragrance
  • Designed and built in Australia, for our warm climate
  • An all-inclusive rental, or for an ozone-only machine, the option to buy outright

Garbage chute odour control

In a building with a garbage chute, the smell of the bins at the bottom rises up the chute and out through the chute access doors on every level. The Garbage Doctor treats the bin room at the base of the chute, so the odour is neutralised before the air rises.

If you choose to add scenting, the Garbage Doctor Duo sends a scented vapour up the chute while the ozone treats the bins. Residents notice the fresh scent as they open the chute door.

Garbage room odour control

In a bin room, PVC conduit is installed along the wall, just above the bins, to release ozone over the bins, targeting the source. Inside the machine, germicidal UV-C light and a carbon filter treat the air the Garbage Doctor draws in.

In a large room with the bins spread out, a scented vapour can optionally add a light fragrance through the whole room, while the ozone treats the odour at the bins. Scenting doesn't have to target the odour source to the same extent that ozone should.

Garbage compactor odour control

A compactor holds a large amount of rubbish in one place. The Garbage Doctor's ozone is dispersed into the compactor's hopper and over the bins around the compactor, so the odour is treated at the source. The ozone also assists with germicidal control around the compactor, where cleaners and waste contractors work.

For a busy compactor room, or long runs of conduit, we recommend the high-output Garbage Doctor Ozone HD. A single Ozone HD can often treat a compactor and a nearby grease trap together.

Looking for a garbage chute cleaning contractor?

We don't clean chutes, but we're happy to put you in touch with chute cleaning contractors in your area. Call us on 1300-ODOURS (1300 636 877).

Chute cleaning and odour control work best together. Cleaning takes the build-up off the chute's lining. The Garbage Doctor neutralises the odour from the bins, around the clock.

Air conditioning in the garbage room

In many cases, the Garbage Doctor is a better choice than air conditioning in the garbage room, because air conditioning often makes the odour worse.

Air conditioning moves more air through the bin room. The more air that flows over the bins or the compactor, the further the smell spreads. Picture a roast dinner in front of a fan: the smell fills the room much faster than with the fan off. Garbage bins work the same way. If you have air conditioning, we recommend you assess the odours with it on, and then off.

If your garbage room needs air conditioning and you decide to keep it on, set the fan to the lowest speed, lowest temperature. and point the vents away from the bins and the compactor.

Germicidal and odour control technology

Depending on the model, each Garbage Doctor system combines:

  • Ozone (trioxygen): neutralises odour by oxidation, while assisting with germicidal control
  • Germicidal UV-C: helps control bacteria, viruses and mould spores in the air passing through the machine, by irradiation
  • Carbon filtration: takes VOCs and some odours out of the air
  • Scented vapour: a very fine, fragranced vapour that leaves a pleasant scent

The ozone is made inside the machine by a Si-Zone® UV ozone generator, from a small portion of the oxygen in the air.
